The Suddath Companies
Jumpstarts Metro Kids
Konnection’s New
Facilities Fund with
$25,000 Donation
JACKSONVILLE, Fla.
– June 22, 2004 –
The Suddath Companies, a
provider of corporate
employee relocation,
household moving and
logistics services,
presented a $25,000
check to Metro Kids
Konnection, a non-profit
organization dedicated
to enhancing the North
side’s “Intensive Care
Neighborhood” of
Cleveland Arms
Apartments. The donation
was made by The Suddath
Companies as a
retirement gift for its
Chairman and CEO Quinn
Bell, who currently sits
on the non-profit’s
board of directors.
This is the first
monetary contribution to
begin the new facilities
fund for Metro Kids
Konnection. Earlier this
year, Metro Kids
Konnection was given
eight acres next to the
existing property where
new facilities will
eventually be
constructed. And the
downtown architectural
firm of Rink, Reynolds,
Diamond, Fisher, Wilson
has donated its services
to draft blueprints for
new structures.
“These donations are
building a new wave of
momentum for an
eight-year-old program
that touches the lives
of hundreds of
under-privileged
children,” said Pastor
Terry Lane, founder of
Metro Kids Konnection.
“The new youth
facilities will allow us
to help more individuals
by expanding our
after-school and youth
mentorship programs,
while keeping kids off
the street and engaged
in worthy causes.
Providing services to
Jacksonville’s public
and assisted housing
residents, Metro Kids
Konnection offers
spiritual enrichment,
substance abuse
prevention, education
assistance and community
partnerships to bring
hope to children of
below-the-poverty-line
families. Specifically,
Cleveland Arms is known
for a high level of drug
and alcohol abuse and
sexually transmitted
diseases. Moreover, the
high school dropout rate
has reached epidemic
proportions.
“Since beginning this
mission years ago,” said
Pastor Lane, “I’ve seen
how unconditional love
coupled with some
guiding direction can
influence these
children, break the
cycle of poverty,
overcome addiction and
give them a renewed
hope.”
